December and Christmas is a special time in Norway as well as here at home. We usually have our Sons of Norway Juletrefest somewhere in the next few days but we have the opportunity to do something a little different this time around. On December 21st, 22nd and 23rd (Th,F,S) The Utah Symphony will be performing the musical score to the movie “Frozen” while showing the movie on the big screen. Sons of Norway has been invited to showcase Norwegian culture in the lobby of Maurice Abravanel Concert Hall prior to each performance. In keeping with the things portrayed in the film, we will set up displays showing rosemaling, dance, folklore and architecture.
We need people to help set up and be available to talk to concert goers about Norway and Sons of Norway. If you are available and would like to attend any or all nights, please call Richard Barnes or Steve Birkeland. This is a great opportunity to provide some community service on behalf of Sons of Norway and to showcase Norway to the community. If available, please wear a Norwegian sweater or bunad.
We have been asked to be set up each night from 6:00-6:45 so that would require us to be there around 5:30 to get everything ready. The concert starts at 7:00pm.
Also, those volunteering to help will be able to attend the concert and movie for free. Each volunteer will be able to attend one concert and extended family and friends would be required to purchase tickets.
We thank Richard Barnes for coordinating with the Utah Symphony and setting all of this up.
