Cultural Competence: Flatbrød and lefse

Writer: Stewart ShellineStewart Shelline

Updated: Sep 17, 2024

Share your skills or learn new ones while making homemade flatbrød and its close cousin lefse. We'll learn about the history and regional differences of these breads, which can be used in everyday meals or dressed up for special occasions, while we prepare, cook, and sample them. We'll have plenty for you to take home, too. Invite your children and grand-children to become "culturally competent" in this quintessentially Norwegian food.

What to bring

You don't need to bring anything but an interest in Norwegian culture and a desire to learn more. Of course, you are welcome to bring any recipes you'd like to share as well as any equipment you use to make flatbrød or lefse, such as a griddle, turning stick, rolling pin, etc. And bring your children and grand-children so they can experience the fun of making traditional Norwegian breads!
