The Sons of Norway Leif Erikson Lodge 6-83 is partnering with other Utah organizations, including the Syttende Mai Committee, BYU Scandinavian Studies program, and Norwegian Consul to celebrate the 200th year since the first organized group of immigrants arrived in the United States from Norway. Plans are underway to design and build a float for entry in the annual Days of '47 Parade, to be held on Thursday, July 24th. The Norwegian community in Utah has undertaken ambitious projects like this in the past-- including the Bautastein and stabbur at the International Peace Gardens--but we know it takes the effort of many individuals to pull off. We hope you will be inspired to contribute your time to honor our Norwegian forebears in this memorable way.

Deadlines are approaching, so we have scheduled a kickoff meeting for this Friday, March 14, at 7 p.m. at 10887 S. Navarro Way, South Jordan. We invite all who are interested in contributing to attend this meeting.

We are looking for volunteers to help in all phases of the float's construction, including:

  • Project management

  • Design

  • Fundraising

  • Construction

  • General labor

  • Participation on the day of the parade
